The Main Street East Reconstruction Project is being proposed to address aging infrastructure and improve the reliability of critical utilities serving the community. The existing street surface was last milled and overlaid approximately 15 years ago and has reached the end of its useful life.
The sanitary sewer system is currently in fair to poor condition, with multiple joints, cracks, fractures, and defective service connections that increase the risk of inflow and infiltration, and there are no available records indicating when the original sanitary sewer infrastructure was installed.
The watermain was last replaced or significantly improved in 1996 and includes several shared service lines, which can create ownership liability concerns and make maintenance more difficult.
The existing storm sewer system ranges from 12 to 18 inches in diameter and consists of a mix of pipe materials. Because other underground utilities will be reconstructed, replacing the storm sewer system at the same time is the most efficient and cost-effective approach.
The total estimated cost for the project is $2,613,373 and includes full street reconstruction along with upgrades to the sanitary sewer, watermain, and storm sewer systems to better serve the community for many years to come.
