PROGRAMS FOR OUR SENIORS - TRIAD

Triad has two objectives, to reduce crime against Seniors Citizens, and to reduce the unwarranted fear of crime that the elderly often experience. The Osakis Police Department works cooperatively with the Senior Citizens, other law enforcement agencies, and the community to provide crime prevention information and training to the elderly.

SAFETY AND SECURITY - SAFE AND SOBER
The Osakis Police Department participates in the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety Safe & Sober program. This is a federal grant program designed to educate the motoring public. The grant focuses on speed reduction, seat belts, and DUI Enforcement.

WEST CENTRAL MN ABDUCTION TASK FORCE
Cooperative effort amongst law enforcement agencies in West Central Minnesota to respond to child abductions or missing persons reports in an organized, expedited fashion.

NATIONAL CHILD SAFETY PROGRAM
Our mission at National Child Safety Council (NCSC), is to prevent needless childhood accidents and help save lives through meaningful safety education. NCSC's goal is to study, improve, and facilitate the continuing safety education of school age children; to provide safety educational materials to local law enforcement departments to improve and promote the cooperation these agencies have with schools, businesses, concerned citizens, parents, and children in safety education; and to safeguard children through instruction from injury or death arising out of preventable accidents.

OPERATION I.D.
The Osakis Police Department offers Operation ID. This is a free program that helps owners mark their property for identification. When a person signs up for Operation ID, they are given an identification number that is unique to that person. That number is then placed on their valuables to mark them. If the marked property is ever missing and later recovered, it is easy to determine who the owner is, based on the identification number. The number can be placed on the property with several different marking tools that are available to borrow from the police department at no cost. For harder surfaces (televisions, VCRs, metal objects, etc. we offer electric engravers.

McGRUFF HOUSE
The OPD is a participant in the McGruff House program. This is a program where certain houses in the community will display the McGruff poster and young people will know that this is a safe place to run to for help if they have problems while walking to or from school or downtown.
